What is Applied Shamanism?

In most every culture around the world, throughout time, there have been those who learn to listen closely to the wisdom held by the Earth and the unseen world.

The word shaman comes from the Mongolian language of the Tungus people and means "one who knows." What they know is simple, but profound: there is far more to this world than what meets the eye — and the unseen shapes the seen.

Applied Shamanism is a contemporary, accessible evolution of traditional shamanic practices, developed to meet the needs of modern seekers while honoring the roots of indigenous wisdom. Using techniques like power retrieval, soul retrieval, and drum healing, Applied Shamanism works with the energetic roots of emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges.

Through shamanic journeying and the cultivation of relationships with compassionate spirit allies, we access insights and healing that are often hidden from everyday awareness.

How it Works

In Applied Shamanic Counseling sessions we will:

  1. Identify a focus: We'll name the issue or pattern you want to explore.

  2. Learn the practice: I'll teach you the core method we’ll be using — the Shamanic Journey — and how to engage safely and meaningfully with it.

  3. Journey: With support and guidance, you’ll journey into the imaginal realm to seek insight, healing, or guidance.

  4. Unpack the experience: We'll reflect on what you encountered, teasing out the wisdom and integrating it into your life.

  5. Deepen the practice: Over time, journeys build on each other. We'll also weave in dreamwork practices to help you tap even further into your own deep intelligence.

Ultimately, my role is to empower you to build your own relationship with the unseen world — not to mediate it for you. The goal is lasting transformation, not temporary relief.

You do not need to subscribe to any specific belief system to benefit from Applied Shamanic work. All that’s needed is curiosity, openness, and a willingness to listen deeply.

Applied Shamanic Counseling is not traditional Shamanism.

  • It is not lineage-based. We work respectfully with core practices found across many traditions, while honoring the integrity of specific cultural lineages.

  • It is self-directed healing. Instead of me doing the healing for you, you will be the one receiving insight and guidance directly. You’ll gain tools to support your healing long after our sessions end.
